New York, NY...August 19, 2005 – Former West Indian fast bowler Anderson Montgomery Everton Roberts of Antigua and Barbuda will be inducted into the US Cricket Hall of Fame. This year’s Cricket Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony is set for Saturday, October 1, 2005, at the new Marriott Hotel, Adrien’s Landing, downtown Hartford, Connecticut. Sharing this special honor are fellow inductees, Dilip Vengsarkar of India and Javed Miandad of Pakistan, who top the list of nominees among the international stars. Also honored at this special event are local nominees Carlyle Miller of New York, Cheryl Griffith of Boston and posthumously, Al Watson of Hartford.
Over the years, Antigua and Barbuda’s pool of cricket players has proven to be among the worlds’ richest in talent, having produced four of the West Indies' best players. Andy Roberts made his test debut against England at Kensington Oval in Barbados in 1973 and his one day international debut against Sri Lanka in the 1975 World Cup. Described as on of the most prolific players during the mid 70s to early 80s, Roberts was also nominated Wisden Cricketer of the year in 1975. His outstanding career as a fast bowler during the heyday of West Indian cricket in the early 80's was followed by his tenure as coach and selector for the West Indies team.
Roberts departed cricket while he was still in his prime with an impressive list of accomplishments that include 202 wickets in 47 test matches, averaging 25.61 with a best bowling performance of 7 for 54. In addition, he took 87 one-day international wickets at an average of 20.35.

Antigua and Barbuda’s Director of Tourism in the U.S.A., Derede Samuel-Whitlock is extremely excited about the event and commented, “This is a major accomplishment for Antigua and Barbuda. Roberts is the second Antiguan to be inducted into the Hall of Fame and this is an important milestone for our destination as we seek to develop our sports tourism product. We want to ensure that this event receives maximum exposure through the international Cricket community.”
This Induction Ceremony and dinner, hosted by the Cricket Hall of Fame, has an attendance donation of $75.00 which includes dinner, open bar and dancing. Antigua and Barbuda’s Department of Tourism will sponsor a cocktail reception at the same venue to honor Andy Roberts preceding the Induction Ceremony from 6:30 – 8:00 P.M. The donation for that event is $30.00.
