ANTIGUA JOINS WOMEN DIVERS HALL OF FAME AUCTION AND CELEBRATION AT DUCK DERBY FUNDRAISER IN LAS VEGAS

New York, NY, (September 28, 2005) -- Former Antigua resident and international star of the hit television series, “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous”, Robin Leach, will be the host and emcee of this year’s Women Divers Hall of Fame (WDHOF) annual Duck Derby fundraiser at the Las Vegas Hilton Hotel on October 5, 2005.

The annual poolside event, sponsored by the Women Divers Hall of Fame, will feature a steel pan player and authentic Caribbean atmosphere, bringing together key members of the diving industry for a unique party and auction.
The poolside event will raise money for WDHOF scholarships for young women entering marine education fields.

“We are taking part in this event to raise awareness among divers and future marine biologists about our water, marine life and beaches in the hope that they will pursue the research and preservation necessary to ensure the pristine environment we enjoy today remains intact for future generations,” explained Harold Lovell, Minister of Tourism for Antigua and Barbuda.

During the auction, Leach will give bidders an opportunity to purchase an assortment of exclusive vacation packages donated by Antigua’s top resorts, including Villa Dominique through Carib Rep Villas, Jumby Bay Hotel, Curtain Bluff Hotel, Carlisle Bay Resort, Blue Waters, Long Bay, Galleon Beach, Jolly Beach and Harmony Hall..

Antigua is almost completely surrounded by well-preserved coral reefs, walls, and shipwrecks, making the southern and eastern coasts ideal for shallow diving and snorkeling. Both novice and seasoned divers will discover unique treasures and marine life under the waters of Antigua and Barbuda. Two of the regularly dived shipwrecks include the 300-foot British steamship "JETIAS" that sank around 1917 and lies in 25-feet of water and the wreck of the Andes, a three-masted merchant ship that sank in 1905 at Deep Bay. For those seeking something a bit more strenuous and fasted paced, the excitement of a deep sea fishing charter offers opportunities to reel in such trophy fish as marlin, tuna, king fish, dolphin, wahoo, shark and barracuda. Others may prefer to enjoy the water on a windsurf or a body board with instructors who are readily available to provide first time boarders with lessons and tips inside the calm reef waters.

To purchase tickets or place an online bid on any of the hotel packages auctioned in the Duck Derby fundraiser, visit the WDHOF Web site at www.wdhof.org and click on Duck Derby. For more information about Antigua, visit www.antigua-barbuda.org.
