Antigua and Barbuda Promotes Adventure in New York

(New York, NY, October 17, 2009) – With the prospects of increased air lift to Antigua and Barbuda from the US for the upcoming winter season, the US Tourism Team continues with intensive promotions at many trade and consumer travel shows.

Last weekend, the destination joined more than 200 exhibitors at The Adventures in Travel Expo at the Meadowlands Expo Center in New Jersey. The team promoted scores of adventure offerings and various vacation packages that the destinations have to offer.

The Antigua and Barbuda “Boarding Pass,” was disseminated. This concise promotional piece highlights the range of land, sea and air adventure activities that are offered in Antigua and Barbuda.  These include circumnavigation tours, diving and snorkeling for sea lovers, land tours such as the zip line, safari and eco tours as well as helicopter tours. Hundreds of show attendees learned about some of the unique experiences, the range of accommodations “from the exclusive to the all-inclusive” that are available in Antigua to suit every budget and lifestyle.

US Director of Tourism, Derede Samuel-Whitlock indicates there was a lot of interest in the destination.  She commented, “All signs point to a rebound in travel and many consumers are already booking their winter and spring vacations. We are very encouraged by the level of interest in Antigua and Barbuda as a soft adventure destination that is convenient to get to from many US gateways.”

Tourism Minister John Maginley is pleased with the quality of product options that are available to adventure seekers. “Soft adventure is one of the niche markets that Ministry of Tourism will continue to develop to appeal to leisure travelers.  The Adventures in Travel Show provides the perfect outlet to engage visitors and travel agents who are in search of the ultimate adventure experience that we offer here in Antigua and Barbuda. “

The destination’s booth stood out in the Caribbean Pavilion, with a colorful display that featured the range of adventure options that Antigua and Barbuda has to offer. The two-day Expo attracted over 15,000 attendees including travel agents and consumers from the tri-state area, who came to learn more about the newest attractions and tours being offered to adventure seekers and avid explorers. The destination will participate in Adventures in Travel Show in Dallas, TX next weekend. This annual event held in a half a dozen cities across the US, is one of the largest, active, adventure shows in the travel industry.
